HOUSE OF DAME BLOG » red carpet hair
Hi, Dames! Wowza on the Red Carpet at the iHeart Radio Awards. The Dames went out with major changes! I was so obsessed and pleasantly surprised. Katy Perry took a page from Miley’s book and took a buzzer to the side of her head. Not mad at it. Bebe Rexha went full platinum
(to wig or not to wig) and Demi Lovato went from glam lengths to chic straight natural lengths.
I think if they are telling us anything its how versatility and constant change is on the horizon. I have 2 words for you- WIGS and extensions. I recently started working with LUXHAIR and i’m seriously obsessed with these wigs. They are inexpensive and the hair, even though synthetic, is not shiny and “wiggy” looking. You can even use irons on the hair. I’ve been talking about Secret Extensions for a minute now. They are so easy to put on like a headband. So, if you want to be like Katie, (we know she won’t be in the short crop for long), Demi and Bebe, start your wig and hair extension collection. Make sure to get a HairClutch to manage and store all your hair piece accessories. Until then, we can all swoon over these gorgeous Dames changing hair!
I want to see you in different hair extensions and wigs. Make sure to tag me on IG. I will repost you!

Hi, Dames! Is everyone watching the Superbowl? Or just chiming in for the half time show like me? I mean, who doesn’t love themselves a little Gaga? She is a Dame that represents being who you are no matter what anyone thinks. Regardless of whether you love her music or not, as a strong woman, we gotta love that! On to the most important: Gaga’s hair! Besides all the wigs, sculptures and the amazing colors she loves to wear, I realized she really loves bows! Bows on top of her head, bows on the side of her head, bows made out of hair positioned anywhere on her head seem to make her pretty happy. I’m not one for crazy hair.. but I do get inspired by it. I decided to create a couple of looks with bows that you can replicate. Any Dame can do this – from young girls to middle-aged moms for a fun day or night out. Below are the images and I will follow with the steps. Try it and let me know how it worked for you!
Note: You can do this with your hair half up or all up in a pony on top of your head – it’s up to you. I put in my extensions and created this look with my hair half up.
Step 1: Use a bristle brush to pull all the hair up smooth to the top of your head. The bow might end up a little frizzy or messy or textured, so I always recommend a juxtaposition for a finished look. If the hair pulled up is smooth and tight, the bun can be messy. If updo is polished, the other hair can be a little messy.
Step 2: Wrap a rubber band around the hair as tight as possible and leave a little loop. This loop is going to be the two sides of the bow. The size of the loop should be the size you want the bow to be.
Step 3: Notice the hair left out – we are going to use that in a second. Take the loop and separate it in the middle. Now, take the loose hair left out and pull it through the middle of the loop and pin it in the base of the pony. If you have long hair and there’s still a lot hanging, you can wrap it around the base of the bow. Pin it into place.
You can follow these same steps to create different bows. This bow I had extensions in and pulled it into a side pony. Then creating a loop, and pulling the ends through the middle. This would be an elegant updo that would could be done in a few min’s once you got the hang of those steps.
It’s OK if you’re not the Dame that will wear a gigantic platinum wig with a huge hair bow on top, or a mini bow on top of your head. Try the side bow that looks like a cool updo. This works for all of us!

Hi, Dames! Did everyone enjoy the Golden Globes last night? The stars were studded from head to toe. We loved the metallic and white seen all over the red carpet. You can tell that those two are about to take over the fashion scene – goodbye cutouts! However, the most important question, what did everyone think of the hair? I particularly thought everyone looked vey glamorous, very polished, and quite beautiful. Collectively, over here we all had some favs…
Rita Ora is the new host of America’s Next Top Model and is definitely one of the most versatile hairstylistas. Her hairstylist Chris Appleton is so talented and creative, he has literally turned her hair into a magic carpet ride taking us from Marilyn glam to a boxer braids kind of Dame. One thing Rita always does is kill it on the red carpet from hair to toe.

The 2013 Academy Awards were especially exciting when it came to the lovely looks coming down the red carpet. The expected up-dos and soft waves came and went but our favorite look left a lasting impression. The star that shined a bit brighter, whose hair outshone even their outfit, the winner of this year’s The Hair Dame Award goes to…
Charlize Theron and her hairstylist Enzo Angilari! This is what it looks like when you own it, ladies. Theron took our breath away. Congrats to Angilari, her long time hairstylist, for proving classic beauty always wins. The perfect blonde hue, coupled with a great shape for her face grants you the award as well, Enzo! Bravo!!
The 70th Annual Golden Globes definitely did not disappoint this year. From the winners to all the red carpet looks we were enamored with this award show and everyone there. The red carpet was star studded with glitz, glamour, and diamond worthy hair. Through all the sparkle we managed to find our stand out THD award winners.
She always looks effortlessly amazing and the Golden Globe Nominations that she co-hosted this morning was no exception. We are digging her deep side-swoop and soft waves. It’s the perfect winter version of a summer look – something perfectly fitting for this California girl.
To get this look, The Hair Dame suggests..
If starting with wet hair, blow-dry focusing on the roots first – going side to side along your bangs to create volume. When you’re completely dry, blow into the direction your desired part using a round brush to smooth out the ends. For a great how-to video on blowing out your own hair, check this video out!
Next, using your curling iron (we suggest 1 1/2″ barrel), take 2″ to 3 ” sections around your hairline and wrap them around the curling iron away from your face on both sides. This will give you those soft waves in the front. Finish it with some shine enhancing hairspray – we love the Moroccan Oil brand.
If your hair is on its 2nd day, a deep-swoop is a great way to conceal a bit of your natural oils. using dry shampoo, spray at your roots throughout. Take a comb and start at the arch of your eye brow and comb towards the middle of your head. Bring all the hair in-front over to the side. Proceed with the curling iron, wrapping your hair away from you face – using your fingers to comb through and give them a natural beachy-look. Finish your look with hair spray. Voila! You ready to hit the red carpet… or the office!
